Simplify 1: Work-Life Balance

I’ve decided to start a weekly series about ways that I’m being inspired to simplify my life. I’ve been feeling the nudging for simplicity a lot lately. Our society has somehow come to equate “busy” with “successful” and mostly busy just makes me feel tired. What I am looking for is balance. I am going to be busy, in most ways, for the rest of my life. What I want to know is, in all of my busyness, how can I make time to give, to rest and be restored? What are the things in my life that don’t bring anyone, including me any good?

That’s what I want to figure out. So on Wednesdays, I am going to share some ideas of simplification that have inspired me in some way .

First up:

Work-life balance. Perhaps this doesn’t wholly relevant for me seeing as I am a full time student (although some would argue that it’s more than relevant seeing as there is no such thing as a 9-5 student).

I heard about this TED talk on CBC yesterday and after listening to it I think I have a lot I can learn from Nigel. Particularly, I found the story of his son most striking. Isn’t that all we want anyway? Time with the ones we love? To feel useful, energized and valued? I wonder too when it comes to money, after a certain point where one’s basic needs are taken care of (which I am sure is VERY debatable) isn’t less more?
