Hup Hup: The Maddy

Before we left for the wild west, we had a bit of a send-off  with (most of) our favourite people at the Madison in Toronto. It was a really fun night! Here are some of their shining faces.

ps- Matt’s here in PG and I am very happy. Today was had a short, but good day out on the block (where we plant trees). Tomorrow is a day off and then I don’t know what happens the next day-but then we move to our camp! Right now we’re staying in a skeezy motel (photos to come, I am sure) and while it’s fun (and we shower daily!) I’m really excited to get to camp and start living “typical” tree planting life.

pps- I really love the people in these photos…

ppps- The day we were at the Maddy, it was the Day of the Queen or something like that in the Netherlands. A big group of dutch lawyers-to-be were there and made sure that everyone had a dutch flag on their cheek, in case you’re wondering.

Hup hup Holland!

The Bike Dance

The scenery and music are pretty epic. Oh and the bike tricks aren’t too shabby either. Its a bit long but what a striking video…the bike is an extension of his body. Amazing. The cute squeaking noises of the bike are pretty awesome too. Its worth watching the whole video.

The light  in the video is so beautiful.

(I just re-read what I wrote and realized that I am full out gushing)

*swoon*

h/t to Aaron for sending the video to Matt

Round up

hello friends,

I hope that you had a lovely weekend. I had a good one. Lots of good things including a Hamilton BBQ, watching Dodgeball (so silly!), a fun mini road trip to Barrie with Jussie (by far one of the most thoughtful people I know), Seeing beautiful Kim kick some ivory ass at her Christmas concert (a.k.a Cadenza, now say it like you’re British!), Christmas tree decorating with Matt, late night reading (Matt finished “The Road”), some studying, interesting church service with live techo Christmas beats (very strange, but interesting), and a fun day with my mom at some crafty/market type places. I essentially bought nothing which makes sense considering I don’t think I have ever once bought or made anything for Christmas before December 1st. I always struggle with gift buying at Christmas (we have a lot and a lot of people have nothing). I like this perspective and agreed that some of the best tangible gifts I have been given have been USEFUL. But I am sure I’ll write more on that later…

Also, found this teenaged phenom and was reminded of how right and good it feels to see someone doing something they were (seemingly) born to do. Hello talent. Check it out.

And now I must study because I “wasted” my whole weekend doing things that are full of life and I spent all my time with people I love…silly me.

For your listening pleasure…

Experiment Week #5- Passion

One of the major bonuses of marrying Matt is that he has incredible friends. I think it’s true that the people you spend your time with say a lot about you–and in Matt’s case, it  says he must be pretty  awesome.

Steve is one of my favourite friends. We went to Waterloo at the same time so we spent some time making the commute to the Hammer together, playing squash or eating curly fries with friends at the campus pub.

Steve has a million and one good qualities–and there are so many of his attributes that I would love to have and be.

In a nutshell, Steve is one of the most brilliant people I know- both book smart and just life smart. He loves his friends a lot. He loves God a lot. He is passionate. I think this is the quality that stands out to me the most about Steve: passion.

There is something to be said about a person who would go to the wall for his friends and family. Steve’s love for life and God (and Bill Simmons) is so evident in everything he does. In his laughter, his running and eating–it’s all done with passion- and joy. He even has a joyful looking running gait, I kid you not.

I know a lot of people who lead (what is in my opinion) exceedingly boring lives. It’s so easy to fall into the mundane. Only about the weather…or watching too much bad tv. Life can become this awful repetitious, dreary cycle.  But I think deep down most people long for connection, for community, for love and to be known. Steve is always trying to better understand the world, God, community and friendship. In the few years I have known him, he has taught me that it’s pretty cool to “love church”, that reading Catholic Priests can be life-changing and that there is never a bad time for a dance party or a good ole’ butt shake.

I want to see the world through eyes like Steve’s. Eyes that see the divine in all things and live with a deep sense of awe and reverence for life and love. I’d also like to be as good at squash as he is.

He writes a blog that you should check out if you get a chance–like I said, he’s brilliant…and I feel really, deeply blessed to be his friend.
